Ship Construction and Stability Level 4

Preface

Ship Construction and Stability level 4 is a course covering the princiles of vessel stability and how ships are constructed to safely transport various types of cargo without compromising their integrity. This is a math-heavy course, so a background in trigonometry, algebra, and ability to discern volumes and shapes of various objects to determine displacement are necessary for success. It is highly recommended to create a formula sheet to aid with memorization.

Resources and Learning

You do not need to be a genius to pass SCS4, you just need to be patient, careful and deliberate when working through problems. The most commonly used textbook for stability is Derret's Ship Stability for Masters and Mates.
